One of the most common things I hear from new Mac users is that the Apple Magic Mouse does not have a right click. It does. The setting is just turned off by default, so a lot of people never find it. Here is how to switch it on in a few seconds on macOS Ventura.
Enable secondary click in System Settings
The right click on a Magic Mouse is called Secondary click, and it lives in your mouse settings. Here is the exact path:
- Open System Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom of the sidebar and click Mouse.
- Find Secondary click.
- Change it from Off to Click Right Side.
That is it. As soon as you make that change, clicking the right side of the mouse gives you the context menu, just like a right click on any other mouse.
A few extra tips
If you would rather right click on the left side, the Secondary click menu lets you pick Click Left Side instead. Either way, the top of the mouse is one smooth surface, so the trick is that it reads which side you press.
This is the same idea across recent versions of macOS. The menu used to live under System Preferences, but on Ventura it is System Settings. If you do not see a Magic Mouse listed, make sure it is paired and turned on first.
